Our computing activity this week was to explore the BBC website about The Victorians
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryhistory/victorian_britain/
During History and English lessons we have found out about Victorian workhouses. In our class book, Street Child by Berlie Doherty, the main character Jim has arrived at the workhouse. We wrote a fact file about workhouses in our topic books and wrote a diary entry for Jim during English lessons.
Here are some of our impressive diary extracts -
Dear Diary,
My name is Jim and I've just had a shocking day. My mum collapsed and we've ended up in the workhouse. I got upset when the police came and put her in the back of a cart. I was petrified and did not know what to do.

Dear Diary,
If ya 'ave been in a workhouse, ain't it just the worst! Err! Sorry ya ain't heard me story yet. 'Ere, let me take ya back in time. It all began when |I was walking down Pudding Lane with me ma.

Dear Diary,
I was then led to a room and had my comfortable clothes ripped off. I was splashed with the ice cold water and fitted into itchy clothes and then I had my hair snipped, snapped, snipped with blunt scissors.

Dear Diary,
Today was the saddest day of my life. Me and my mum were strolling along the road. My mum was exhausted. I needed to find her a seat before she collapsed. We found a wooden bench, it was the best I could find.
